Movie Review: 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World'

90-1.jpeg

My daughter and I had adored films one and two, maybe myself more so than her! We were very thrilled the third movie finally came out, and let me tell you it is just amazing as the first two. You will leave with a tear if you follow this series and have grown attached to the characters. The thoughtfulness of individuals in the film is touching. Just overall a great movie. So sad, personally, to see this come to an end.

THE JIST

Hiccup, the meek and awkward teen from the first two films, is now a mild, awkward grown man, attempting to lead his tribe of Vikings. A brutal tribe of dragon hunters is on the attack, and Hiccup decides to lead his people and their dragons on a journey in search of a more safer shelter.

Love is in the air in this outing, with Hiccup edging toward marriage with his longtime crush, Astrid and even his trusty Night Fury dragon, Toothless, courting a potential mate in the form of a wild Light Fury.

The journey and lessons may be predictable, but the story is skillfully told and performed with a top-notch voice cast of Cate Blanchette, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, and David Tennant.

Overall, this movie was good. It doesn’t offer a shattering emotional moment; it doesn’t tear your heart in pieces. Instead, it tugs at your heartstrings and gently guides you to the finish line. Nothing will ever beat the first film, but ‘The Hidden World’ is funny, entertaining, fun, emotional ... you might shed a tear at the end as I won’t give any spoilers, but it felt like closure. The story went full-circle and ended with an emotional farewell to my favorite Dreamworks characters.

is this the final goodbye to "How to Train Your Dragon?” Overall, Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 91%; I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I will say it’s not a perfect movie, but it’s a perfect ending.
